                   The First Battle of the Cold War -  The Berlin Airlift.

 

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the start of the Berlin Blockade. To commemorate the event, THE COLD WAR MUSEUM - Berlin Chapter, and the veterans of the BRITISH BERLIN AIRLIFT ASSOCIATION, will open an exhibit dedicated to the Airlift.

 

The exhibit will open on May 24, 2008 at the Chapter Berlin facility in Harnekop, Branndenburg. Harnekop is the atomic proof military command center of the former German Democratic Republic and the Warsaw Pact Supreme Command.

Veterans of the Airlift will stay in Berlin from May 23rd through 28th May and a “get together of the servicemen from the old flying days” is planned to take place at t "Flieger Kneipe Bohms"  for a BBQ,  Berlin-Lichtenrade on May 26th.

 

Special thanks go to Mr. Hauptvogel, Director of Communication, and “Air Berlin” Airline for the donation of fourteen roundtrip tickets from London to Berlin to help honor the British Airlift Veterans.

 

On the 27th of May, the Messe Berlin - ILA 2008 invite the British Veteran for an event and presentation.

The Project Manager ILA Berlin 2008, Mrs. Birgit Compans wants arranging and organizing anything for the group. Mrs. Compans will pronounce more information next couple of days.

 

We will never forget the Berlin Airlift as an important operation in the struggle of the Cold War. And we will never forget the heroes who went above and beyond the call of duty for democracy and freedom.
