Werner Jurezko spoke to packed house at the Elmhurst Historical Museum in Elmhurst, IL in January. The museum is hosting an exhibit entitled "Alert Today - Alive Tomorrow", conveying just how close the world was to Nuclear War during the Cold War. Bringing the point to life was a happenstance of an entire cache of Civil Defense items located during construction in Chicago on Wacker Drive in February. Chris Sturdevant spoke on March 15 during the program series as well.

The Midwest Chapter will be present at the EAA AirVenture annual fly-in from July 23-29. Werner Juretzko (Cold War espionage), Chris Sturdevant (Wisconsin's Cold War history), and Dave Roebke (NORAD) will once again be on the grounds speaking to groups throughout the week. Chris Sturdevant, during a trip competing in Finland at the World Masters Athletics Indoor Champtionships April 3-8, will visit with Rotary groups in both Finland and Russia during his trip. He will be visiting the Hermitage, housed at the Winter Palace in St Petersburg, birth of the Bolshevik Revolution. The Cruiser Aurora is also nearby, the ship that fired the first shots of the Revolution in 1917.

Rotary International chapter in Des Plaines continues to support educational initiatives of the Cold War Museum. We appreciate the support that the Rotary chapter gives to the Cold War Musem

Our popular WWI program, "Dawn of the Cold War", draws on experiences of US and allied troops sent to North Russia and Siberia during the first world war. We supplement our presentation with the documentary "Voices of a Neverending Dawn", which chronicles the hardship US troops faced fighting the Bolsheviks during the Russian Civil War. Exhibit viewing is now open the New Berlin Public Library onsite in their Veteran's history room. Current exhibits include a Civil Defense display and Cold War Origins Timeline from 1917- 1940. The Cold War Berlin and Nike missile exhibits will be available starting in May



The Midwest Chapter has secured office and meeting space in Chicago, IL with the German American National Congress, known as DANK. It is the largest organization of Americans of German descent. A reception was held in January in Chicago on behalf of DANK supporters, with both Werner Juretzko and Chris Sturdevant on hand.
